On Saturday, Jan. 4, the Ontario Warriors won the 2014 Tyger Invitational, The meet is an all relay event with the relay teams made up of 2 girls and 2 boys. The Warriors squad posted 400 points and were followed at a distance by Shelby with 298 and Madison with 270.
The rest of the field placed as follows: Norwalk (262), Mansfield Sr. (258) St. Peter’s (230) and Mansfield Christian (180).
Ontario’s Tyler Watson, Alaina Merkel, Chad Wright and Allison Chelsky put up the fastest time for the 400 yard medley relay. The four posted a new record time of 4:16.17 beating 4:20.06 mark held by St. Peter’s.
The Warriors also took the 400 yard backstroke relay thanks to the combined efforts of Jared Watson, Alley Rehfeldt, Andrew Jottey, Chelski. Ontario rounded out their winnings with a 400 yard butterfly relay team featuring Wright, Arianna Fisher, Kyle Corduroy and Sami Sheppard.
The Tygers took home the 400 yard breaststroke relay. Ethan Leuedy, Hutch Blackstone, Brianna Jones and Tobie Zeller combined for a 5:05.81 mark.
Blackstone would also join Drew Weeks, Liz Wolfe and Zeller to take the 400 IM relay with a 4:27.86 finish.
Weeks, Blackstone, and Zeller later combined with Grace Haring to win the 200 yard underwater relay with a time of 1:55.64.
In the 400 yard freestyle, St. Peter’s Anthony Schlitt, Thomas Schlitt, Alana Raplh and Kayli Ralph put up a top time of 3:47.99. The same team also placed 2nd in the 200 underwater relay with a 1:57.40 mark.
