Mansfield Motor Group (MMG) and Richland Source partnered to offer a new Nissan Versa Sedan or a $10,000 scholarship to a high school senior in a Richland County School through the Mansfield Motor Group Student Citizen Program. This opportunity was made to reward students who achieve academic success and make healthy life decisions.
Madison Comprehensive High School has made this opportunity a top priority for the students. “We have about 50 students who have signed up to for the program. We have made it a top priority to publicize this program to our students and make them aware of this wonderful opportunity,” said Principal of Madison Comprehensive High School Rob Peterson.
Jordan Yost is one of the seniors at Madison who has decided to take part in the program. “Since I have entered this program, I have become more aware of my driving habits. I always wear my seatbelt and I check to make sure my passengers have their seatbelts on, too.
“When I am driving, I try to make sure that I keep the radio turned down low because I don’t want any distractions while I am driving. I leave my phone in my pocket while I am driving and make sure to not text and drive,” said Yost.
Yost shared what winning the drawing would mean to him.
“If I won, I would probably choose the scholarship. It would help out a lot with college, but the vehicle would be nice, too,” said Yost. Yost hasn’t made a decision on where he will be attending college, but right now his top choices include The University of Toledo and The Ohio State University.
Senior Ashton Hall is also participating in the program and shared how this has helped her change her driving habits.
“I have gotten a lot better with watching my speed. I am more conscious of the consequences that I could face if I were to get pulled over. In the past, I would text and drive every so often. I would send a quick message to someone, but now I don’t do it,” said Hall.
Hall revealed that if she were to win the drawing, she would choose the scholarship. “The scholarship would be a big help with college. I want to do something in the business field when I go to college,” said Hall.
Hall has not chosen a college just yet, but she is looking at The University of Akron, Heidelberg University, and Ashland University.
Senior Maggie Andrews has become a more focused driver when she is behind the wheel. “I am definitely more aware of the driving laws and of the consequences that could result. I haven’t ever really used my phone while I was driving,” said Andrews.
Andrews shared which prize she would select if she happened to be the winner. “If I won, I would pick the scholarship because it would help me and my family out with expenses,” said Andrews. Andrews plans on attending Ashland University.
The winner of the grand prize will be announced at the mock crash event that is held at the Richland County Fairgrounds in April 2014.
“The scholarship would be a big help with college. I want to do something in the business field when I go to college,” said Ashton Hall.
