Every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until Dec. 29, people will have the opportunity to get into the Christmas spirit by witnessing the Christmas displays at Kingwood Center.
Christmas at Kingwood is an annual holiday event in which visitors can see Kingwood Center decked out for the holidays.
In accordance with the event’s theme for this year, each of the trees’ decorations in Kingwood Hall represents a symbol of Christmas. Such symbols include candy canes, mistletoe, the three kings, among others.
Upon entering the Kingwood Hall, one’s attention will be drawn to an 18-foot Fraser Fir tree, which is decorated with poinsettias and amaryllis, along with 5,000 lights. The tree was decorated by Kingwood Center staff, volunteers and family members.
Volunteer Rita Walsh noted, “It took a lot of hours and people to get everything prepared.”
“It’s hard to say which display is my favorite because they’re all so gorgeous, but I really like the one out in the foyer.”
There are approximately 13 live trees total, which were taken from Wade and Gatton Nurseries in Bellville.
Walsh explained that area garden clubs along with Kingwood Center volunteers and staff helped decorate the trees. She added that the decorations can help give visitors helpful ideas on how to decorate their homes for the holidays.
“Everything is so wonderfully decorated,” commented visitor Bill Fry.
“I’ve come every year for the past several years,” stated visitor Rebecca Kress. “I like to see all of the lights and watch as children have fun looking at all of the displays.”
Visitors will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite gingerbread house. Locals have crafted their very own gingerbread houses for a gingerbread house competition. There are eight entries total and the winner will be decided on Dec. 29.
There is also an expanded outside light display and fire pit in the courtyard. Also, the greenhouse will have holiday plants for purchase.
Tickets cost $5. Advanced tickets can be purchased on the website at www.kingwoodcenter.org, or for more information please call 419-522-0211 ext. 107. Please note, on Dec. 6, Kingwood Center is closed to the public.
