The former mortuary and funeral parlor site Schroer & Son is on its way to becoming a micro-brewery on North Diamond in Mansfield. The site has seen partners Josh Beard, Duncan MacFarlane, Steve Zigmund and a silent partner busy preparing the facility for what they anticipate to be a 2014 opening for the Phoenix Brewing Company.
This week, the budding business is one step closer to fruition. On Thursday, Phoenix Brewing Company moved in part of their brewing equipment.
In those tanks, brewmaster Duncan MacFarlane will begin brewing an American wheat beer, English style extra special bitter (ESB), Indian pale ale (IPA), and an oatmeal style beer. Beyond those in-house offers, Phoenix will rotate their menu to maximize variety.
But even before the brews start flowing, the business has decided to give early customers a taste of things to come just before the holidays.
“Right now, something that we just recently released was an opportunity for memberships both through the Founders Club and through the Mug Club,” said Zigmund. Benefits include discounted pours and members only events. “It is a chance that we can raise a little capital but it’s also a way to give back to them,” he said.
The Mug Club will reward first 100 respondents with daily discounted imperial pint pours, merchandise discounts, an exclusive tshirt, and tickets to members only events. The cost is an initial $75 good until April 2015 and a yearly fee of $50 after that. The first 50 paid respondents for the Founders Club receive all Mug Club benefits plus a personalized imperial mug, tickets to a pre-opening event, extra merchandise discounts, advance notice of new releases and two growlers with a carrier. The cost is $300 that is good until April 2016 with a yearly fee of $25 after that.
Up next, the business will complete the process of licensing and renovation. Following full installation of the equipment and certification, Phoenix Brewing Company will begin pre-launch brewing and final construction phases.
