At Bellville Village Council meeting last week the pledge of allegiance was led by local Boy Scout Kyle Rinehart. Once the meeting was called into session, Rinehart, a senior at Clear Fork High School and a member of Bellville Boy Scout Troop 126, addressed the council members with a request of a financial donation towards his Eagle Scout project.
“I am currently working on achieving my Eagle Scout and need your support. My project is centered around replacing the two benches in front of the Bellville Star and fixing the section of concrete that was damaged when the gas lines were worked on,” said Rinehart.
Rinehart explained that the section of concrete needed to be dug out, filled and leveled out. Also the benches would be replaced with stainless steel benches.
“I need approximately $300 to complete the project and earn my Eagle Scout. Currently I have $50 and am asking if somehow the village would be able to donate towards the balance,”added Rinehart.
Mayor Darrell Banks addressed Rineharts’ plea stating,”Kyle will be 18 on January 24 and must complete the project before then in order to receive his Eagle Scout.” Banks then added,”Our options are to do nothing or contribute an amount in part or up to the total sum of $250. We would be able to make such a contribution out of the Special Parks fund.”
Banks then stated that according to Fiscal Officer Brigette Banks funds were available to donate.
Council member Larry Rose praised Rinehart’s efforts and made a motion for council to donate the full sum of $250 needed to complete the project.
“Because of the limited time and urgency to complete the project, I would like to make a motion to give him the full $250 needed out of the Special Parks fund. That way he doesn’t need to worry about collecting and can get busy with fixing and getting things done,” said Rose.
The motion was approved.
Mayor Banks made a motion to go into executive session for the purpose of discussing personal matters and two legislative issues. Banks indicated it was not known whether action would be taken.
