“Marketing is in my blood,” said Violeta Chinni, as she introduced herself to other aspiring artists and patrons of art. Chinni described marketing art at the Richland Community Development Group (RCDG) event, pARTicipate. The event was held in downtown Mansfield at Element of Art.

The overarching theme of Chinni’s talk was the element of working together as a community to promote the art culture that is quickly emerging in Mansfield.

“Why not work with another artist? This will help promote both the artist selling the piece, and the one helping,” said Chinni.

Chinni is known in the community as a professional marketing expert. She has more than 15 years in experience and currently works for a company based out of Los Angeles. She is also an adjunct professor of marketing at North Central State College. Recently she opened a an art gallery next to Saffron Indian Cuisine on South Park Street: Niabos.

She invited a friend from Columbus to her most recent exihibit at Niabos. The friend told her, “You must have big cajones to open an art gallery in such a dormant city.”

Chinni was frustrated her friend would say this about her beloved Mansfield, so she proceeded to invite him to the next First Friday because she believes Mansfield has a burgeoning art community where “things are happening.”

Friday’s event was divided in two parts: Chinni’s talk, and then small groups formed according to specific interests and specializations. Small groups were comprised of people interested in Performing Arts and Music, Writing, and Visual.

The marketing Four Ps encouraged thought and inspiration as Chinni shared advice on how to treat art with a marketing perspective. The four Ps include product (or service), place, price, and promotion.

Chinni’s talk inspired much conversation, where one unanimous conclusion was reached.

“[Mansfield is] definitely on the upswing as an art community,” said Chinni. She charged the listeners to keep improving on promoting the arts because it will only help in building up a vibrant art community.
