In September, the Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc. kicked off a campaign for the Senior Services levy that is up for renewal. The Richland County Senior Services levy, if renewed, will continue to provide services and care for the residents over the age of 60 in North Central Ohio.
The levy will not generate new tax dollars for taxpayers because it is a renewal, and will be good for five years. It will draw $33 a year from the owner of a $100,000 house. Its main purpose is to provide services and care for senior citizens who are striving for independence.
If passed, the levy will provide matching funds to allow the Agency on Aging to collect $650,000 a year.
There is an array of services the Agency on Aging offers Since 2009, the agency has provided 87,678 hours of personal care, 95,111 hours of homemaker service, 76,512 home delivered meals, and 53,259 transport trips for medical appointments.
Less than six percent of the money generated from the levy will be used for administration. The remaining 94 percent will be invested in the service and support offered through the agency.
Duana Patton, the Agency’s CEO, said, “I am so blessed to be able to help people. It’s a fact that we’re all getting older. We all need a little help sometimes, and I’m glad I’m able to do that.”
If the levy is passed, Patton and her associates and specialists plan on continuing to “provide leadership for a collaborative service and resource network that supports individual choice, independence, and dignity for older and disabled adults.”
