The Collegian, Ashland University’s award-winning student newspaper, has a few more awards to put on the shelf. The Ohio Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists has named The Collegian as the Best Non-Daily College Newspaper of 2012.

The organization also awarded Chris Bils, the newspaper’s managing editor, a second place recognition for Best College Sports Writing. This is the second consecutive year Bils has received second place in that category.

This is the second time in three years that SPJ has named The Collegian as the best non-daily college newspaper. Last year, The Collegian won second-place in that category.

“We are excited that our newspaper has been selected as the best non-daily college paper in the state,” said Matt Tullis, assistant professor of Journalism and Digital Media and adviser to the newspaper. “This shows just how dedicated our journalism students are to producing quality journalistic content.”
