“This year has been absolutely wonderful. We have had our highest numbers ever this year and there has been a lot of buzz around the Shelby Farmer’s Market,” said Manager/Coordinator David Ernst.

Saturday morning marked the last farmer’s market of the season for Shelby, but there were some new additions to the closing of the season. “The Fall Festival is a good way to close the market season and we enjoy having live music here for participants to enjoy,” said Ernst. The group 7 Roads to Nowhere played live music during the festival.

For the season closer of the farmer’s market there were 28 vendors participating. “Throughout this season, we have had as many as 37 vendors here. On average we had about 25 to 26 vendors and this was one of the rainiest seasons we have ever had. The numbers were just incredible. The Farm to Plate program really helped bring the number of people from around the area to the market in Shelby. We would love to continue to work with them because they were just great,” said Ernst.

Mike and Amy Schroeder joined the Shelby Farmer’s Market for the first time on Saturday. “We have always come to the market and we just wanted to be a part of this. We sell corn stalks and hopefully we will be back next year,” said Amy Schroeder.

Mayor Marilyn John was ecstatic with the farmer’s market this season. “This market brings in people from outside communities and it brings vendors from all over. It is beneficial to businesses in downtown Shelby because people want to go explore the town. The farmer’s market has been exceptional this year. The Farm to Plate program brought in outside communities as well as residents from Shelby. Farm to Plate has been a tremendous addition and the program focuses on everyone, including activities for children. It is a great partnership and we are very blessed to work with them,” said John.

Ernst looks forward to continuing his work with the farmer’s market next season. “I will be back next year. This is the most rewarding thing I do in my life. I just love the people and the community is great to work with,” said Ernst.
