It was a showdown of two Division III top ten opponents. The Mansfield Christian Flames boys varsity soccer (MCS) was ranked #7 in last week’s OCSSA state poll. Western Reserve Academy rolled to Logan Road ranked #4 in the state. Thanks to Mansfield Christian’s 5-1 upset victory over their Cleveland area opponent, this week’s poll looks different.

The decisive Flames victory has propelled MCS to #5 in the latest OCSAA poll, while Western Reserve fell completely out of the top 10.

The Flames spread around scoring around evenly. Five players scored five goals. Josh Cochran, Brendan Ernsberger, Chandran Higgins, Brandon Mount, and Sam Paul all scored a single goal.

For Mansfield Christian, David Cochran added two assists. Josh Cochran and Brandon Mount each added another.

MCS keeper Caleb Young scooped up 9 saves to limit Western Reserve scoring. On the opposite end, Western Reserve tallied 2 saves.
