Ashland University’s Professional Development Services has partnered with the Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence (OCALI) to offer online workshops that will start in early October.
“In my estimation, OCALI is the No. 1 provider of autism workshops in the world,” said Dr. Gene Linton, executive director of Professional Development Services in the Founders School at Ashland University. “It is exciting to formulate this partnership with an agency that is known for their quality work out in the field.”
Located in Columbus, OCALI’s Autism Center provides a clearinghouse of information on research, resources and trends to address the autism challenge. The instructor for AU’s online workshops will be Dr. Sheila Smith, assistant director of OCALI.
“The partnership will begin with the offering of three courses – Behavior Basics, Evidence-BSD Practices and Intro to Autism/ASD – which will run from Oct. 7 to Nov. 3,” Linton said.
Linton said the courses will be geared to public school and private school teachers who deal with students who have autism characteristics. Those taking the workshops will be able to earn AU graduate college credit.
Linton said those interested in the online workshops can sign up through the AU site at http://www.ashland.edu/founders/professional-development-services or go to the OCALI website at http://www.ocali.org.
