On Wednesday, the Clear Fork Board of Education meeting opened with comments from the public beginning with concerns raised by Naomi Wade of Bellville regarding the newly implemented drug testing policy.
Wade stated concerns regarding the process involved in determining the size of the pool of students chosen for testing and requested clarification as to what exactly was approved as school policy and cost.
Athletic Director Benji Bethea answered her request with the reassurance that the tests were within the range of or below the 20 percent mark that was previously discussed in prior board meetings. Bethea also said the tests were completely random and included twenty-five high school and five middle school.
Board president Gary Mathes stated, “I know there is going to be glitches. If there are concerns I suggest they be put into writing and directed to Mr. Bethea, Mr. Ritter and myself and we can look into it.”
Wade said she would pursue her concerns in the manner that Mathes suggested and stated she had additional concerns regarding what policies are being followed and that clarification was needed to define the policy, process and fees.
Interim superintendent Dave Ritter acknowledged Wade and the concerns she voiced and responded, “Although I have been here about three weeks I must say it is a pleasure. Clear Fork is a great place to work. I can appreciate those who voice their concerns. We love our kids and we go to bat for them.”
