MANSFIELD, Ohio-The second Wednesday of each month is always a special day for Richland Bankers. At their monthly Good Morning Staff Meeting, they get the latest banking news, celebrate successes, and hear what is going on in the community. But Wednesday’s meeting held even more significance as the 12th anniversary of 9/11.
Instead of holding their meeting at the normal location, over 120 Richland Bankers met at 6:45 a.m at the 179th Airlift Wing at Mansfield Lahm Airport. The group heard from Wing Commander Col. Gary McCue about the base and then was treated to a tour of a C-130 given by several crewmembers.
“Today is a significant day in our nation’s history. Not only is it important to remember those who so tragically lost their lives but to take the time to thank those who protect us every day”, said John Brown, Richland Bank President, “The 179th plays a critical role in not only protecting our nation but our state and our community. They are deeply rooted in Richland County and are such an important asset, it is only fitting that we take a moment to thank them for the sacrifices they make daily for us.”
On their way into the meeting, each banker signed a banner with a personal message of thanks to personnel at the 179th. The banner, along with a $500 donation, was presented to Col. McCue. The money will go to the Friends of the 179th Family Support and Readiness Group to aid in their support of local service men and women and their families.
“As a recent transplant to Mansfield, I’ve always heard fantastic things about the 179th,” said Bryant Fox, Richland Bank Management Associate. “It was an important experience to visit the base and develop a better understanding for their work and their importance to the community. They deserve our full support. This was the best staff meeting we’ve had since I’ve been here.”
