Despite the rainy conditions, the Ontario Lady Warriors battled against the St. Peter’s Lady Spartans Thursday evening out on the slick soccer pitch, ultimately ending in a Warrior victory of 3-1.

The Warriors’ varsity B team took to the field and with about eight and a half minutes into the game, Ontario’s Allie Atkinson shot a soaring goal into the top left corner of the net.

Nearing the end of the first half, Madison Papst netted the second goal for Ontario, leaving St. Peter’s trailing 0-2.

The rain kicked in with nearly 15 minutes left in the second half, making the playing conditions a bit slick. That did not hinder Shelby Flaherty from scoring goal number three for Ontario.

St. Peter’s Kirstie Schneider lit the scoreboard with the team’s first goal with less than a minute to go in the match. Reagan Myrwol provided the assist.

In addition to her goal, Schneider also made five attempts at the goal. As a team, the Spartans would get off 12 shots on goal.

Reagan Roley, the Spartan goalkeeper kept busy by blocking 12 shots. Ontario’s Meredith Remy guarded eight goals from the net.

In reference to the Spartan’s performance, St. Peter’s coach Mayo Kuac stated, “The girls did well all around. They worked well together as a team.”

“Our record doesn’t speak to how well they can play,” he added. The Spartans season now stands at 1-1-3.

Warriors coach Larry Atkinson thought his team played well and believed the match provided a good opportunity for the younger and less-experienced players to gain some experience.

Ontario will play again on Saturday against Akron Hoban and St. Peter’s will face off with the Mansfield Senior Tygers on Saturday, as well.
