Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3494 will hold its first annual Military Services Walk A Thon on Saturday, Oct. 5. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Madison High School’s football field, 600 Esley Lane, Mansfield.

All funds generated from the event will be used to make a difference for veterans and active duty soldiers and airmen. This year the proceeds will be divided evenly to support Richland County Veterans at the new David F. Winder Department of Veterans Affairs Community Based Outpatient Clinic and Active Duty Military Services through the Family Readiness Programs for active duty personnel at the 179th Airlift Wing, 200th Red Horse Squadron and 1486th Transportation Company. 

The minimum pledge per participant is $20. Pledge cards can be obtained online at the VFW Post’s website. Monday, Sept. 16 is the deadline for participants to register and make a minimum pledge of $20, and pledges must be turned in by Friday, Oct. 18.

There will be live entertainment, information for veterans and active duty personnel, a bake sale and raffles.

Even children can be involved. There will be a Tricycle Relay and tricycles will be provided to be used on lane one. Participating children must be accompanied by an adult.
