Lucas Mayor Todd Hall and the Lucas Village Council accepted a proclamation on Tuesday, Sept. 3 as National Recovery Month via legislation P-22-2013. Sherry Branham, the Director of Program Management and Public Relations for the Mental Health & Recovery Services, was present to thank the council for their support.

Branham shared that one of the main purposes of having a Recovery Month is to raise awareness of the types of recovery services available. “We also want to help people understand the stigma’s associated with mental health and recovery from addictions. People can and do recover from these things every day and lead normal, productive lives,” said Branham.

Richland County Mental Health & Recovery Services partners with Catalyst Life Services, a 24/7 helpline offering assistance regarding substance abuse and is available to all Richland County residents. Branham said they can be reached at 419-522-HELP (4357).

Other council agenda items included an update on the street patching which has filled in the deep holes in the roads around the village. The Street Resurfacing Project is scheduled to begin in mid-to-late September and must be finished by October 15, per the village’s contract.

Quotes are being sought for the repair of sidewalks on the north side of Highway 39 so that school children don’t have to cross the highway.

Mayor Hall confirmed that the vacant Liquid property on Main Street is in the process of being purchased. The mayor also confirmed was in contact with Dollar General and had left messages for the person in charge of real estate purchases for Dollar General to determine if they would be interested in the vacant grocery store property.
