The Shelby Whippet volleyball team hosted the Norwalk Truckers on Thursday night at Shelby High School. The Truckers began the game explosively leaving the Whippets trailing in the first set with a score of 8-25.
Senior Brianna Burkhalter and Senior Amy Mutchler dove viciously towards the floor to try to recover the ball, but were left defeated in the second set with a score of 7-25. During the third set, Shelby had no answer for the Lady Truckers unstoppable defense.
The Lady Truckers took the third set with a score of 5-25. Burkhalter was 12 of 14 on attacks and also added two kills. Mutchler had 15 digs and Burkhalter was right behind her teammate with 13 digs. Freshman Kennadie Goth added 11 digs as well.
“We need to work on playing as a team and we need to work on building our communication skills with each other. Having good defense skills is something we will be focusing on,” said assistant coach, Jordan Nelson.
The Lady Whippets will be traveling on Tuesday, September 3 to take on Tiffin Columbian.
