The Citizen Action Sector of the Richland Community Development Group (RCDG) met this past week to plan two upcoming events for Mansfield voters. On September 11 at 4:30 p.m. the guests will be local candidates running for office. And on October 9 at 4:30 p.m. the guests will be representatives of organizations with issues on the ballot. Both evenings events will take place at the North End Community Improvement Cooperative’s location at 199 N. Main Street in Mansfield. A neutral moderator will be identified and announced in the near future.
The group discussed the format of the event and the questions to be asked. With a particular interest in understanding the politician’s vision for the future and accountability for spending of tax dollars, the hope is that the discussion at the candidate nights will give voters clarity in deciding what officials and issues they will vote for. Candidate nights are open to the public and all voters are encouraged to attend. Additional details pertinent to the candidate nights will be distributed via local media and RCDG closer to the dates for the events.
The Citizen Action Committee hopes to increase civic engagement of residents and is open to all Richland County residents. They hope to dispel the myth that the sector is only focused on the North End community. Regular monthly meetings will resume after the candidate nights and all are encouraged to participate.
