Every Friday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. area bargain hunters have a new destination. The Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a thrift store for home improvement and décor items located at 2131 Park Avenue West, at the southwest corner of the building, which appears to be the rear when facing either from Lexington-Springmill or Park Avenue West.
Habitat for Humanity has been building housing domestically and internationally since 1976. These projects have garnered large-scale support in the form of both cash and material donations. Often more supplies and building materials are donated than can be utilized by the charity. In 1992 the first ReStore was opened in Austin, Texas in order to prevent the unused materials from becoming landfill waste. There is also the added benefit that the community gets a unique thrift store experience which is also a fund raising opportunity for Habitat for Humanity.
The ReStore sells quality new and previously owned goods at highly discounted prices, sometimes as much as 75 percent below retail. Brand names such as Price Pfister, Delta, Mills Pride, Moen, Telco, Flotec, Black & Decker, GE, Kwikset, Weslock, Koholer, Broan, and more are among the great finds. The proceeds from sales stay in Richland County and further the mission of Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat for Humanity executive director Veronna Drane hopes that area residents will think of stopping in the ReStore when they plan their home improvement projects.
The ReStore accepts donations of gently used items like cabinets, hardware and fixtures, doors, sinks, furniture, paint, flooring, and tools.
To make a donation call 419-525-8416. Donations may be dropped off Tuesday through Saturday with prior arrangements and some items can be picked up on Wednesdays only.
The ReStore is hosting a special ReUSE, ReCYCLE, ReStore Event on August 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event is a partnership between Habitat for Humanity, Brain Tree and Volunteers of America. At this event residents may bring tires (for a fee), electronics, and clothing in addition to the list of household and construction items normally accepted.
Although the store is currently open, the official grand opening celebration will take place August 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
