“We are really engaged in making the YMCA a better place for our community,” said Director of Membership and Programs Eric Finn.

Finn joined the YMCA team in July 2013. He said, “We have been working a great deal with Mansfield YMCA. They are the closest and biggest YMCA. They have helped us keep everything afloat during transition.” Currently the YMCA does not have an executive director, but Finn stated they are in the process of hiring one.

Finn said that the YMCA will be leaping into their fall activities. He said, “Currently right now, we are offering swim lessons. Swim lessons can be taught privately one-on-one or taught with a group. We like to offer both to our swimmers.” He said, “The swim lessons that are offered are very popular. We have quite a few participants.”

Tackle football for fifth and sixth graders will be returning, too. Along with tackle football, flag football will be offered to the younger players in grades kindergarten through fourth grade. Finn said, “Flag football is fun for them and for the parents because they are running around the field having a great time.”

Finn said, “The dance program is one of our most popular features we have here at the YMCA.”

The instructor of the program is Jill Potter. Finn noted, “It can be difficult to get into the program because it is usually extremely full.”Gymnastics and tumbling will also be available in the fall.

The cross country program will be resurfacing this fall. Finn said, “Last year we had almost 60 kids participate and it got great feedback.” Soccer will be another activity that will be available during the fall months.

The YMCA is also experiencing some development. Finn said, “We are in very early stages of implementing a youth center in the YMCA for kids when they get finished with school. Nothing is set just as of yet, everything is still up in the air. We want this to be a good place for our kids after school.” If there is a youth center created inside the YMCA, it will include games, computers, and Wi-Fi internet.
