The Shelby Board of Education discussed the opening of the newly constructed high school on Tuesday, August 20; and Superintendent Tim Tarvin made note of an evening when the high school will be open to the public. Tarvin also brought new business to the board with buyers seeking to purchase Russell School.
“We want to say thank you for the contributions towards the new high school that were made by David A. Eyler and Dr. Stephen Eyler, both of Shelby. We are very appreciative of their donations,” said Tarvin. The two are brothers and wanted to make contributions towards PI fund toward displays at the new school. David A. Eyler donated $5,000 and Dr. Stephen Eyler donated $1,000.
The high school will be opening to students for the first day of school on Tuesday, August 20. “People are excited to open this building up to students. It is such an exciting time right now for the community,” said Tarvin. “All of our teachers have done a fabulous job with getting everything ready to go for the school year. Everybody has done a great job and that is why we are opening on time is because everyone has really worked together,” he added.
“On September 11, from 5-8:30 p.m., the new high school will be open to the public. Everyone is invited to this event. On October 14 at 6 p.m., a dedication ceremony will take place and that is open to everyone as well,” said Tarvin. “This has been a long process and it is exciting to see all of the planning and construction pay off. This has been in the works for three years,” said President, Bruce Briggs, Jr.
The Shelby board heard new business in regards to approving the sale of Russell School. “This is a win-win situation with us. The building would be in good hands with the individuals of the organization purchasing the building. Those who will purchase the building will put time into making sure that Russell School will be well maintained,” said Tarvin. The potential buyers have not yet been names.
