Mayor Larry Collins and the Ontario city council recognized the many years of service of recent council member retiree Charlotte Hellinger. In attendance were Hellinger’s three children, Ann Shelton, Jane Motley, and George Hellinger. The proclamation marked August 15 in honor of  Charlotte Hellinger’s service to the City of Ontario. The Mayor and Council President Daniel Zeiter each spoke in honor of both Charlotte and the late Charles Hellinger. The key to the city was then presented to George Hellinger by Mayor Collins.

Other council meeting activity included a unanimous vote to approve the utilities commission recommendation of $5,000 to study the Ohio State University-Mansfield’s new campus district project called the Mansfield Campus Framework Plan, which will affect the current sewer system. Representatives of OSU have requested $5,000 each from Ontario, Mansfield, and the county commissioners to cover the $20,000 cost of the study.

Service-Safety Director Roger Heston reported that engineering proposals were being solicited for the design of the new roads in the Business Park.

In other council updates, a motion passed to continue the study of Park Avenue to reduce the current 50 mph speed limit to 45 mph. City Engineer Linda Timmer explained the legislation that needs to be presented in order to change the speed limit as well as a need to look at the cost of changing speed limit signage.

The meeting ended with the passing of Ordinance No. 13-29 which requires the City Service-Safety Director and City Treasurer to receive payroll deductions for Health Savings Account money that was improperly paid to each.
