As the new school year quickly approaches Clear Fork’s head football coach, Dave Carroll, is optimistic for the upcoming season. The coach is looking at a deeper roster that is bigger, stronger, faster.
“Our speed is much greater this year and this group of guys has the most depth at skilled positions I think I’ve seen since I’ve been here,” said Carroll.”Most of our offense is back from last year,” he added.
Carroll has been head coach at Clear Fork for five years with a total of 25 years experience.
“We are pretty big up front, we’ve got linemen 270-280 pounds; we have more speed than we’ve had in the last two years. Our skill guys are in good shape,” said Carroll. “Size, speed and strength and I see a lot of comradery in this group–that’s big in football,” Carroll added.
The upcoming offense is well-stocked noted Carroll,”We have back-up: up to three players in each position,” Carroll said. Defense is strong and looking good as well according Carroll. Carroll also noted that he believes people will be surprised to see some new faces, players who compete in other sports as well. “You can play more than one sport and still be good,” he added.
Carroll shared a glimpse at this year’s strategy in offense. ”What’s new is a little twist on offense, a spread set, and a 5-2 line-up on defense that’s all I’m gonna say,” said Carroll.
The only challenges Carroll foresees are some Clear Fork has always faced playing in the OCC, that is playing bigger schools. “They have more kids, more resources, and that’s a challenge,” said Carroll. “It makes a difference playing schools twice their size,” he added.
Carroll said their strategy is to be in great shape, disciplined and tough. Qualities that will ensure the Colts tackle the season and their opponents bigger, stronger, faster in 2013.
“Size, speed and strength and I see a lot of comradery in this group–that’s big in football,” stated Clear Fork’s head football coach Dave Carroll.
