“Our first day was wonderful,” said Becky Sarbach, Senior Youth Group Leader at First English Lutheran Church on Park Avenue. Sarbach added,”We raised $1,400 in one day.”
The church is holding its fourth annual yard sale in the parking lot adjacent to the church building this weekend. The sale started Thursday morning and will run till Sunday at 3 p.m. All items in the sale were donated by church members, family, friends and neighbors in the community. And the money raised from the sale will go to fund mission trips and worship outings for the churches youth groups.
In the past yard sale money funded a trip to St. Louis where the youth groups volunteered at a camp called Recreational Unlimited. The volunteers helped mulch and cut hiking paths. The youth groups are divided into junior and senior groups and include a total of 32 youth.
“We are a downtown church with downtown families,” said Sarbach. “Some of our kids have never been out of Ohio, this is a chance for them to travel somewhere new and do good things,” she added.
Sarbach noted that all the volunteers do a great job and didn’t know what they would do without the generosity of E Step Express in Mansfield who has donated the use of one of their trucks for the last three years.
Although they have not quite yet decided where the next worship trip will take the kids, Sarbach is optimistic the yard sale will raise enough money to provide the youths the opportunity have a great experience.
The sale will coincide with Art in Central Park on Saturday.
