The Richland County Fair opened Sunday with selection of the 2013 Junior Fair king and queen. The honors were presented to Daniel Gregg and Molly Frazier. The three judges were able to make their decisions based in part on their own role as king and queen. Emcees David and Patty Fackler asked each contestant a question before the judges made their decisions.
2012 King Peter Bisel and Queen Samantha Beal gave parting remarks. Reynolds stated, “I’m glad to pass it on because the next queen gets to experience the fun I had.” She encouraged her successor to enjoy her reign because it would go quickly.
Bisel agreed, and he said, “Royalty takes a lot of work. If you get it, take pride in it and congratulations.”
Questions during the interviews covered junior fair board leadership, mentorship, and attractions at the fair.
Contestant Brianna Reynolds, representing Lucky 4-H’ers 4-H Club was asked what qualities she would for in a fair queen. “I would look for poise, personality, and a commitment to junior fair,” she replied.
Luke Given of Farm Gang 4-H was asked what he would share with a new 4-H member, and he replied, “If I was asked to mentor tell them all about all the fun that is made at camp. And at the fairgrounds camp, we have so much fun like going to the pool. At the fair we have so much fun just walking around the fair and exhibiting our animals.”
David Fackler asked yet-to-be-crowned queen Molly Frazier, “Why is the junior county fair program a great program?”
“Our Junior County Fair program is a great program because it has the ability to build great character and have an influence on your life. You learn trustworthiness , respect, responsibility, caring, fairness and citizenship. And through this you can become a well-rounded person which will help you later in life and help you to succeed,” said Frazier.
The Junior Fair court includes, for king, 2nd runner-up Austin Bisel of Plymouth and 1st runner-up Luke Given of Crestview; and for queen, 2nd runner-up Brianna Reynolds of Mansfield and 1st runner-up Carley Circosta of Crestview.
