Anyone heading west into Ontario on Park Avenue has likely seen the distinctive blue Corvette sitting atop the Warrior Pizza & Ice Cream restaurant. Behind that unique roof ornament and inviting blue doors are more than just pizza and desserts. Inside their doors are international and national awards and a history dating back to the 1960s. This Ontario diner has a spread of food and a reputation worth checking out.
In 2007, Ron Erich took ownership of the little restaurant, renovated the exterior and interior, and introduced his customers with a pizza recipe that would soon pique the taste buds of customers and pizza critics alike. The “GPS” (Green Peppers and Sausage) pizza was ranked fourth in the world and first in the Eastern region at the Las Vegas International Pizza Exposition in 2009 and two years later ranked number one in the North American Pizza and Ice Cream Competition in Columbus. The shop would also place third in 2013. But Erich is not content to rest on recent laurels.
“I am working on another pizza to enter into the Las Vegas competition,” says Erich. The difference in Erich’s restaurant is in originality. He makes his own pizza sauce and dough daily with fresh ingredients. From his now famous GPS pizza to the simple pepperoni pizza, the owner takes great pride in ensuring the highest quality. Other menu items like bratwursts, hot-dogs, curly fries, waffle fries, sub sandwiches, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, shredded chicken sandwiches and salads add some variety into the unique food experience. All food and ice cream is available for take-out, dine-in or on-the-go with the drive-thru.
The Warrior is open year-round, but closed on Sundays. In the busy summer months, hours are Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and in the winter, Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
