“Crestview offers a great, well-rounded education. The teachers are willing to try new things that will hit a wide range of learners, and we’ve always had strong parent involvement, which is one of the things we pride ourselves on. Plus, there’s a community component that makes you feel welcomed when you come here,” said Crestview Superintendent, Scott Will.

Nestled just north of Mansfield and northwest of Ashland, Crestview Local Schools is attended by approximately 1200 students.

For the past four years, Crestview students have achieved a rating of excellent or better on the state report card issued by the Ohio Department of Education. The past two years, the school earned an excellent with distinction rating.

With regard to the students’ success, Will commented, “Our teachers are constantly evaluating what they can do to improve instruction practices.”

An example of new and improved teaching methods is the introduction of Google Chromebooks, which will be available for all sixth and seventh graders for the 2013-2014 school year. The following year, high school students will be provided with the Chromebooks, and by the end of 2015, sixth – twelfth graders will be equipped with this advanced technology to use for each of their courses. Students are permitted to take them home to use.

One of the biggest implications the school’s currently facing is the implementation of the new Common Core State Standards for the upcoming school year.

Will stated, “Our teachers have been working very hard for the last year and a half to prepare for the transition. We’ve been able to pilot different types of tests to gather student data, and we’re looking at the testing format in different subject areas to see how it all fits into the new Common Core.”

Scott Will’s inauguration as the superintendent is August 1. For the past three years he served as the Crestview high school principal. He mentioned, “Mr. Seder has really laid the foundation to move forward. A lot of great things happened when he served as superintendent.”

Will looks forward to his position as superintendent and stated, “I enjoy the community-feel and the community support for the school. Community members feel that education is a priority, which is why we have the success that we have.”
