The Clear Fork Local Valley Schools Board of Education said farewell to several retiring teachers at their regular July meeting. Retiring staff members who were recognized at the meeting included Carolyn Parrott, John Parrott, Carol Pretorious, Deb Riley, Jamie Woodward, Janet Coole, Diane Brokaw, Dan Gorbett, Linda Schaub,
Board president Gary Mathes stated, “We realize they have done a great job for us. We also realize they need some time for themselves.”
Carolyn Parrott was the first retiree recognized. Parrott taught first, second, third, and fourth grades in Bellville and Butler during her career.
“It’s been great,” said Parrott, “and the time went very fast. The staff and kids were wonderful. It was a great place to make our home.”
John Parrott had a long career teaching seventh grade science and coaching at Clear Fork. He coached track, football, and basketball.
Middle School principal Steve Bloir noted, “He taught with his brother Denny for over 20 years. He coached middle school basketball throughout and will continue after retirement.” Bloir also noted that Parrott had been nominated for the student-selected Celebration of Excellence award.
“It’s been a wonderful 35 years. You can’t find a better place to teach and coach,” said John Parrott.
Carol Pretorius also had a substantial teaching career in the school district beginning in 1984. She taught Title 1 reading, math, social studies, and seventh and eighth grade literature, and served at principal for a time at Butler Elementary.
Diane Brokaw, who taught fifth grade, started her teaching career in Butler in 1993. Janet Coole started teaching at Clear Fork in 1984. She taught first and fifth grades and Title 1 at Bellville and Butler. Deb Riley taught special education at the high school and at Butler, beginning in 1982.
Jamie Woodard was recognized by Butler principal Matt Caputo for her years teaching fifth grade at Butler. Woodward, who started at Clear Fork in 1982 taught at both Bellville and Butler over the years and advised Academic Challenge and student council.
“I’ll definitely miss you. There will be a great void,” said Caputo. He added. Thank you for helping our kids grow.”
