On Wednesday, July 10 at 10:06 a.m. the Richland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported bank robbery at the Richland Bank, located at 889 N. Trimble Rd. The employees of the bank stated that a white male entered the bank wearing a white hoodie and produced a small black handgun and demanded the money. The suspect then fled the bank on foot, with an undisclosed amount of money.
A citizen observed the suspect fleeing from the direction of the bank and provided deputies on the scene the information. The Richland County Sheriff’s Office K-9 officer was summoned to the scene and conducted a track. The K-9 Unit tracked the suspect to the front door of a residence in the 800 block of Fairfax Avenue.
Deputies and Major Crimes Detectives made contact with the occupants of the residence and conducted a consent search of the residence. During the search the officers discovered the suspect’s clothing hidden in the ceiling. The residence was processed as well as the bank by the Richland County Sheriff’s Office Crime Lab. Evidence was collected and submitted to the crime lab for further processing.
The Major Crimes Unit then continued the investigation with the assistance of the Mansfield Field Office of the FBI. During the investigation the investigators was able to conclude that Anthony R. Windbigler, a white male, 30 years of age, of Mansfield, was identified as the person responsible for the bank robbery. The Richland County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit then issued an arrest warrant for Windbigler for the charge of Aggravated Robbery F-1.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Bureau, Major Crimes Unit, Violent Crimes Impact Team (VCIT) and the FBI pursued leads to locate Windbigler throughout the evening. Through investigative means the suspect was located at a residence in the 300 block of Orange Street, Mansfield. The residence was converged upon by law enforcement and the suspect was apprehended by the Richland County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, as he fled into the residence. The residence was processed and evidence was seized.
The suspect was transported to the Richland County Sheriff’s Office Jail where he was served the copy of the listed warrant and incarcerated pending court appearance.
