“Things are looking alright as of now, but we are not out of the dark just yet,” said Christina Thompson, Community and Economic Development Coordinator.

Thompson said, “There were no road closings last night or this morning. The river was rising last night with all the powerful rain, but the water has receded.”

Most of the water that was surrounding the damaged areas has receded. Water still remains at the bottom of the stands in Skiles Field and outside the entrance. There is no standing water remaining on the field.

Richland County Organization for Disaster Assistance (CODA) is a resource that is available to county residents to call for disaster relief assistance. Thompson said, “It could be potential disaster assistance if it is needed and we have worked with them previously during past floods.”

All of downtown Shelby roads and businesses are opened today and Thompson plans on meeting with businesses to discuss any damage that was caused by the flood. Thompson said, “We still need to take precaution because the river is still vulnerable to heavy rain amounts.”
