When Butler village council met on Monday, July 8, topics discussed included Safe Routes to School, the recent Safety Town project, the upcoming car show and the open council member position. Concern was expressed for filling the position.
All council members were present except Joyce Mickley-Stover who was unable to attend. Mayor Kevin Carr informed council that Butler merchants are meeting on July 15 to discuss plans for the Butler Car Show on August 10. Issues to be discussed include fees and parking issues as Main Street and Elm S. will be closed. Many of the cars will be displayed at Weekley Jeep Eagle. Weekley’s cars will be moved for the event.
Carr also informed council that a meeting with Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) engineers regarding a field review proposal to move forward on the village’s Safe Routes for Schools project was scheduled for Tuesday night (July 9).
Commenting on the recent Safety Town, council member Joshua Haring said, “Chief [Brian] Darby did an excellent job.” Butler’s Safety Town event was held June 24-28 with approximately 30 children in attendance.
Council also discussed the council seat vacated by Joseph Stallard. Stallard moved and could no longer serve on council. Car noted that the term ends on December 31 but an interim council representative can fill the position.
Council member Sean Kelley stated that he felt there seemed to be no interest among local residents in occupying the position. “I will keep you informed,” said Carr relating to the interest or possible candidate for the position. Council member Wesley Dingus motioned to table the discussion until further notice.
Lynette McCune, Assistant Fiscal Office, made a motion to approve the Year-to-date Report and to pay bills due for July 2013. The motion was approved.
The final council action was to move the meeting day of the Water/Sewer committee and the Street committee from the Third Tuesday of every month to the Third Wednesday of every month due to availability issues of some of the members.
