Westbrook Country Club hosted the eleventh annual 2013 MedCentral Golf Classic yesterday. The event was a fundraiser for the MedCentral health system, with the proceeds going into programming and medical supplies.

The day of golf cost $200 per player and included all greens fees, lunch and dinner, staffed locker rooms, and a chance to win a new Jeep from Buckeye Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram of Shelby. The new, black Jeep Wrangler was free to the person who shot a hole-in-one on hole nine. Unfortunately, however, no one did.

Joe Chamberlain, CEO of MedCentral said, “It’s a great day for a great benefit.” Chamberlain was among many other business leaders and associates of Richland County. Twenty eight teams of four persons turned out for the event with an expected $30,000 raised.

Yesterday’s game was played as a scramble. A golf scramble is popular among tournament and charity event games. Each team is usually comprised of four players: A, B, C, and D. In a scramble, each player tees off on each hole. The best shot is selected and then each player takes their second shot from that spot, and so on until the ball is holed.

“The guys get pretty serious out there. They definitely have fun, but they’re all very competitive when it comes to golf,” said Maura Teynor, with public relations and physician recruitment from MedCentral.

Three teams were declared winners after yesterday’s scramble. Richland Bank won first place with a score of 57. Following in a close second placement was First Merit Bank with a score of 59. Chicago Title placed third with a score of 61. Each team received a gift certificate.

MedCentral received support for the fundraiser from local sponsors. Lunch was sponsored by Converys, Frantz Ward, and Gardner & White. Hole sponsorships were available for $250 each. Corporate sponsors included, OhioHealth, KeyBank, and McGladery. The clubhouse and prize was sponsored by ECI Healthcare Partners.
