With this year’s”Legend” theme, the Miss Ohio Scholarship Program has a memorable week planned.
Miss Ohio Week opened over the weekend with the contestants’ red carpet arrival at Richland Mall on Saturday. Crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of the 23 contestants as they modeled apparel provided by the mall merchants.
Then on Sunday, the Miss Ohio hopefuls appeared in downtown Mansfield for the annual Miss Ohio parade. Contestants traveled from Park Avenue West through downtown, and stoped at the Richland Carrousel Park to sign autographs. And with the week just beginning, there are many more remaining events.
Tonight, the Miss Ohio Style Show occurs from 5:15 – 11 p.m. at the Renaissance Theatre. The Miss Ohio contestants will be joined by the Teen contestants and princesses as they model their outfits.
Wednesday night will showcase the Miss Ohio’s Outstanding Teens as they compete for a chance to qualify for the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant in Orlando, Florida in August.
On Thursday, the first night of preliminaries will be held at 7:30 p.m., and Friday marks the second night of preliminaries, again at 7:30 pm. And on Saturday, June 22, Miss Ohio 2013 will assume her reign at the crowning ceremony.
The new Miss Ohio will receive $10,000 in scholarship money, which is provided by Newman Technology Inc. She will also receive a 2011 Cruze from Graham Automall.
In addition to Graham Automall’s car donation, they are also sponsoring something new this year for the Miss Ohio competition: The Graham Automall People’s Choice Contest. This contest allows the public to vote one contestant into the top 11 as the eleventh semi-finalist. Each vote costs $1and all of the proceeds benefit the Miss Ohio Scholarship Program. Voting runs until June 21 at 6 p.m.
Graham Automall’s Vice President, Kenneth Williams stated, “We wanted to give another award out to one of the Miss Ohio contestants, so we’re sponsoring $1,000 cash scholarship to the winner of the People’s Choice Contest.”
