ASHLAND — The Ashland Arrows are working on something special in a bizarre season that originally started without a Week 1 foe, but now includes an undefeated record and just a half-game out of first-place slot in the Ohio Cardinal Conference.

Coach Sean Seder is pushing all the right buttons so far, and on Friday night that included calling on Ethan Hartley — a lot. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound senior ripped off 142 yards rushing on 24 carries and both of his team’s touchdowns in a 13-6 win.

Hartley gave the Arrows (4-0 overall, 3-0 in the OCC) a 6-0 lead on a 26-yard TD dash with 7:37 showing in the first quarter.

Mansfield Senior (1-3, 1-2) responded on Nakari Virden’s 6-yard scoring run at the 6:12 mark of the second period.

But Hartley had the last word on an 8-yard touchdown jaunt with 3:00 remaining in the half, which proved to be the final score of the game.

Hartley also topped Ashland with four catches for 60 yards, giving him 202 all-purpose yards for the night. Quarterback Declan Rohr balanced the offense by hitting 14 of 21 passes for 170 yards.

The Arrows enjoyed a 19-14 edge in first downs. a 173-91 advantage in rushing yards and a 343-330 margin in total yards.

Senior High quarterback Brock Hill completed 19-of-28 passes for 239 yards. Myles Bradley was his favorite target with six catches for 148 yards. Aveon Grose had eight catches for 56 yards.

The Tygers return to Arlin Field on Friday night to host undefeated Wooster. The Arrows are at home against winless Lexington.
