Tyler Garrett Dawson was born on January 8, 1989 in Marion. He passed away tragically on March 4, 2026, following a courageous and lengthy battle with depression.
Tyler was the beloved son of Jeffrey and Deborah Dawson. He was the cherished little brother of Rebecca “Annie” Trammel.
A proud graduate of Colonel Crawford High School in June 2007, Tyler embodied dedication and service from a young age. Immediately after graduation, he enlisted in the 179th Airlift Wing of the Ohio Air National Guard. He completed basic training with distinction and attended technical school in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Tyler continued his pursuit of excellence by earning his degree from The Ohio State University in December 2012. His commitment to his country led him to serve honorably in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom, where he demonstrated bravery and resilience in the face of challenging circumstances.
Driven by a passion for aviation, Tyler advanced to helicopter flight school, becoming a skilled pilot and flight instructor. Upon completing his training, he relocated to North Carolina, where he piloted scenic tours along the beautiful Cape Fear region, sharing the wonders of flight with countless others.
Beyond his military and professional achievements, Tyler gave generously to his community as a substitute teacher, inspiring students with his knowledge, warmth, and encouragement. His loyal Golden Doodle, Auto-named after the critical helicopter maneuver “autorotation”-was one of his closest companions. Golf became a cherished highlight of his warm-weather months, fueling not only his love for the game but also his craftsmanship; he built custom clubs for himself and fellow enthusiasts.
He shared countless adventures and unbreakable bonds with his best friend and cousin, Daniel Rachel, creating memories that will endure forever.
Tyler is survived by his devoted parents, Jeffrey and Deborah Dawson of Galion; his sister Rebecca “Annie” Trammel, and her husband Matt Trammel; his beloved nephews and nieces, Abraham, Ella, Mackenzie, and Elijah Trammel of Mansfield; and his paternal grandmother, Mary Eileen Dawson of Galion, with whom he shared a deeply special relationship. Tyler visited her often, kept a watchful and caring eye on her well-being, and was her greatest encourager-especially when enjoying his famous chicken wings together. He is also survived by his loving girlfriend, Camille Shepherd, who stood by him with unwavering support.
The family will receive friends for a Celebration of Life from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM Saturday March 21, 2026 at Walker Lake Baptist Church, 1602 Walker Lake Road, Mansfield.
