MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Symphony Orchestra invites audiences to a spectacular evening of cinematic favorites and classical masterworks at Side×Side: A Night at the Oscars on March 14 at 7:30 p.m.
This inspiring performance unites professional symphony musicians with the rising stars of the Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra in a one-of-a-kind musical mentorship experience.
Directed by Octavio Más-Arocas, with youth orchestra direction by Stephen Domka, the Side×Side Concert is more than a performance; it’s a celebration of the next generation of musicians and the power of collaboration across generations.
Students perform shoulder-to-shoulder with seasoned professionals, gaining firsthand insight into the artistry, discipline, and teamwork required in a professional orchestra. Throughout the experience, young musicians learn directly from veteran performers, ask questions, and build confidence while sharing the stage in a full-scale symphonic setting before a live audience.
“This concert represents mentorship in action,” said Music Director Octavio Más-Arocas. “It’s about sharing knowledge, fostering growth, and inspiring young artists to see themselves as part of the future of classical music.”
A Program Worthy of the Red Carpet
Blending timeless classical repertoire with iconic film scores, the evening’s program includes:
- Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67 — Ludwig van Beethoven
- Back to the Future — Suite for Orchestra — Alan Silvestri
- Mission: Impossible Theme — Lalo Schifrin, arr. Custer
- Forrest Gump — Main Theme — Alan Silvestri, arr. Lavender
- The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring — Symphonic Suite — Howard Shore, arr. Whitney
- Pirates of the Caribbean — Hans Zimmer, arr. Ted Ricketts
From Beethoven’s legendary opening motif to thrilling Hollywood soundscapes, this concert bridges centuries of storytelling through music.
