Mary Kathryn Ervin, age 84, passed away Monday, January 19, 2026 in her Lexington home. She was born on August 3, 1941 in Mount Vernon to the late Richard Phillips & Frances Sharp Phillips.

She grew up in Knox County and faithfully attended Green Valley Methodist Church with her family. Mary was a graduate of Fredericktown High School, class of 1959. She furthered her education at Otterbein College. She worked for Ohio Utilities for over 15 years. She started out as an office assistant and worked her way up to office manager. Mary took great pride in her responsibilities as office manager. She would often stay late, working until all of her daily tasks were completed.

Mary was a devoted mother, she would faithfully attend all of her children’s sporting events, cheering them on from the stands. She loved to cook, bird watch, garden and spend time with her family. Mary loved being crafty, she often went to garage sales, buying things to take home and find another purpose for. She and her family loved to travel. Mary had visited all lower 48 states in her lifetime. Some of the highlights were locations in Maine, Niagara Falls and Colorado. Trips to Lake Erie on the weekends to stay in their home, fishing, boating and enjoying time together were some of her fondest memories. The family also enjoyed spending time at Indian Lake. In more recent years, spending time with her grandchildren especially during the holidays was very special to her.

Mary will be fondly remembered by her daughters, Audrey (Richard) Asquith and JoAnn (Patrick) Cottrell; her grandchildren, Alex Cottrell, Ryan Asquith, Sean Asquith and Justine Asquith; her sisters, Nancy Cline, Debbie Berger and Barbara Bond; her brothers, Paul Phillips and Herb Phillips. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Marvin “Larry” Ervin; her daughter, Diana Ervin; her siblings, Harold Phillips, Rachel Garber and Roger Phillips.
