CONGRESS TOWNSHIP — A Bellville teenager died in a one-car crash Wednesday afternoon, according to the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

A Galion teenager suffered serious injuries in the crash, troopers said.

The patrol didn’t release the names of either teenager in its press release.

The accident occurred at 2:53 p.m. on Morrow County Road 59, near County Road 56, in Congress Township.

A 16-year-old male from Galion was driving eastbound, operating a 1999 Ford Ranger, according to the patrol. He reportedly drove off the left side of the road and struck a tree.

The driver was transported to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital by Morrow County EMS with serious injuries.

The only passenger in the vehicle, a 14-year-old male from Bellville, was pronounced dead at the scene by Morrow County EMS.

Both teenagers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, troopers said.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, Morrow County EMS, and 24/7 Towing.

Alcohol/drugs are not suspected factors in the crash, which remains under investigation, according to the OSHP.
