Darrell E. Smith, 82, of Mansfield passed away December 5, 2025 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital surrounded by his family.
Darrell was born September 19, 1943 in Marion to Omar and Iva Booth Smith. He was a 1961 graduate of Mansfield Senior High school and attended Ohio University until enlisting in the Army. Darrell was a member of General’s Army 113th Band out of Fort Knox, Kentucky. He worked as a claims supervisor at Tappan for 20 years and then retired from Empire Detroit Steel. Darrell loved playing trumpet and was a member of the Mansfield Symphony for 42 years playing in many musicals and other events. He was a member of the American Federation of Musicians Local 159, and St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Darrell cherished all the times with his family and truly enjoyed every moment he had with his grandchildren.
Darrell is survived by his wife of 56 years Lynda Mecurio Smith; children Laura (Steven) Scodova, Rick Faulk, Andy (Janene) Smith; grandchildren: Ryan and Alex Faulk, Nathan, Rachel, Natalie and Myles Smith; great-grandchildren: Emelia, Mary Margaret, Ellie, Asher and Ari; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Raymond and Donald Smith.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 14, 2025 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Herlihy Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West. Burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra.
