Dr. Yogesh K. Desai, age 72, passed away on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025 in Mansfield, Ohio.
Yogesh was born on August 19, 1953, in Borsad, Gujarat, India to Kanubhai and Lalitaben (Patel) Desai. He spent his childhood playing with friends and diligently reading. His uncle, the late Pravin Desai, the first physician in the family, inspired Yogesh to pursue medicine. He graduated from Kamani Forward High School in Amreli, Gujarati, India and went on to obtain his M.D in 1976 from MP Shah Medical College in Jamnagar, Gujarat. After graduating, he traveled across the world to begin his psychiatry residency in Brooklyn at Lincoln Medical & Mental Health Center. During a week-long vacation, he traveled back to India and came back with a wife, Hina.
While his parents, brothers, and much of his extended family remained in New Jersey, Yogesh moved his young family to Ohio. In Mansfield he built a robust psychiatric practice, he devoted his days to caring for this community. After long days in clinic, Yogesh found joy in quiet evenings reading the newspaper, attending monthly potlucks with the local Indian community, and watching the latest Bollywood films. In their later years, Yogesh and Hina traveled the world together and took on the new role of grandparents as Nana and Nani.
Yogesh showed his care through his work-long days and years spent making sure his family and children would always be able to lead the lives they dreamed. That same devotion extended beyond his home, and in the community. He will be remembered for his unwavering dedication, humility, and the tireless compassion he offered to every patient who crossed his path.
He is survived by his two children, Vilok Desai and Vasvi Mullick of Ann Arbor, Michigan; two grandchildren Ronin and Viaan Mullick; and two siblings, Vishnu and Ramesh Desai. In addition to his parents, Yogesh was preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Hina (Amin) Desai, who passed away in 2024.
The funeral will be held at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby, Ohio. Sunday, December 7, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM.
