SYCAMORE — Seat-squirming drama and huge momentum swings made Friday night’s Northern 10 battle of unbeatens a fitting fall classic in Sycamore.

Colonel Crawford combined Peyton Baker’s 23-yard touchdown run midway through the final period and a dramatic goal-line stand in the final four minutes to deny Mohawk and earn a see-saw, 24-21 victory.

Joseph Zizzo’s 36-yard field goal pushed C.C. on top 3-0 in the first period, but Mohawk responded with Andon Clouse’s 2-yard plunge for a 7-3 halftime edge.

The Eagles’ Brayden Holt hauled in a 22-yard TD pass from Parker Weithman for a 10-7 margin early in the third quarter.

But Clouse scored on a 5-yard blast midway through the third period to push the Warriors back in front 14-10.

Weithman erased that deficit immediately, by returning the ensuing kickoff 76 yards for a touchdown to shove Colonel Crawford on top 17-14 heading to the final 12 minutes.

Clouse picked off an interception near midfield to set up his own 1-yard scoring plunge for Mohawk’s final advantage of the night, 21-17.

That set up Baker’s heroics, and the C.C. defense stopped the Warriors’ final thrust at its own 4-yard line. The offense then maintained possession to the final gun, finishing a thriller.

Senior Connor McMichael collected 103 yards rushing on 25 carries for Colonel Crawford.

The Eagles are 4-0, 1-0, and will play at Buckeye Central Friday night.

Mohawk drops to 3-1, 0-1, and travels to Bucyrus next week.
