MANSFIELD — The Mansfield branch of the NAACP has announced a leadership change following the departure of its current president, Alomar Davenport.
Davenport, a former Mansfield City Councilman, will step down from his role effective immediately, as he has accepted a promotion with his company and will be relocating out of the state of Ohio, the organization announced in a press release Monday afternoon.
Davenport has served as president of the branch with dedication and vision, working to advance the mission of equity, justice, and civil rights throughout Richland County.
During his tenure, the organization has continued its vital advocacy for marginalized communities and fostered stronger relationships across the region, the NAACP stated.
“I am disappointed to leave this important work, but know that the organization will continue to make an impact in the community under the leadership of Dennis Baker,” Davenport said.
“This is a great opportunity for me to further my career and a meaningful next step professionally.”
Effective immediately, Dennis Baker, the branch’s current First Vice President, will assume the role of President and serve the remainder of Davenport’s term.
“I would like to thank the members of this esteemed organization, the members of the executive committee, and the community of Richland County who joined with me to make a change for our citizens,” Davenport said.
The NAACP Mansfield branch remains committed to its mission and looks forward to continued service and advocacy under Baker’s leadership.
