Tobias A.Toby “Little Hun” Philpott, age 60, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 4th at Avita Hospital after a short illness.

Toby was born on March 11, 1965, in Mansfield, OH to Terry and Helen (Daniel) Philpott. Beloved brother, son, uncle and friend, he was one of the original group of students at Richland County Newhope where he later graduated. He went on to work in the wood shop of various Newhope industries throughout adulthood before spending retirement in Silver Lining Dayhab.

Hun was the heart and soul of the family. In his younger years, he was known for lighting up a wedding dance floor, wrestling with his nieces and nephews, his love for the Boy Scouts where he was a charter member of Troop 123, and sitting in a separate pew at mass to sing as loud as his heart was content. He was a medalist at the Special Olympics and played basketball for the Newhope Bears. He loved word search books, Mash, wrestle mania, and maintaining a strict schedule. Each day of the week was dedicated to one of his seven favorite albums, from the Bee Gees to John Williams.

Toby is survived by five siblings – Pam Ransom, Tim (Deb) Philpott, Patrice (Dane) Anderson, Thad (Lori) Philpott, and Maria (Mike) Buck; brother-in-law Tom Malaska, 10 nieces and nephews, and 10 great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, oldest sister, Paula Garrett-Malaska, and brother-in-law Randy Ransom.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 8th from 4 – 7pm at Herlihy Funeral Home at 173 Park Ave West. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, August 9th at 10am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 60 S. Mulberry Street with interment to follow at Mansfield Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boy Scout Troop 123 (mail check to the Knights of Columbus Attn: Bob Sliney) or Silver Lining Dayhab in Toby’s memory.

Special thanks to Avita-Ontario Hospital staff for caring for Toby in his final days.

He will be dearly missed by all, but we know he is finally “home” with Mom and Dad.
