MANSFIELD: Wilma E. (Bonecutter) Ammons, 92, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 5, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.

The daughter of Serge S. Bonecutter and Nellie J. (Anderson) Bonecutter Wilma was born November 25, 1932 in Shelby.

Wilma retired as a Legal Secretary and attained her CPS and PLS Certification.

Wilma served her community in innumerable ways. As a legal secretary, she mentored young women who followed in her footsteps and went on to have careers of their own. She guided attorneys fresh out of law school and helped them navigate the court system in order to serve their clients well.

As a 1950 classmate of her beloved Mansfield Tygers, Wilma was the consummate organizer and the class is still meeting for breakfast each month 75 years after graduation.

With music as a constant source of joy, Wilma entertained her friends and family with her accordion, and played the piano at local nursing homes for “the old people” when she was well into her 80s.

A woman of faith, she mentored teens in their walk with the Lord, and often served communion to shut-ins.

She was a good mom, a wonderful grandma, and was intensely devoted to her entire family. She was one-of-a-kind and will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her sons Richard (Deborah) Ammons of Port Clinton, Gregg (Brenda) Ammons of Mansfield, daughters Luana (Mark) Hugel of Portsmouth, VA, and Kathy Humphrey of Westerville; grandsons Gerald Ammons (Heather Smith), Nicholas (Kristi) Ammons, Joshua (Janelle) Hugel, and Douglas (Ashley) Humphrey, granddaughters Ashley (Clay) Hudnall, Kelley (Ian) Swope, Stephanie Humphrey and Chelsea Hugel; great grandchildren Aidan Ammons, Meghan Shaneyfelt, Destinee and Anthony Moore; Chase and Conner Humphrey, Cameron and Peyton Hudnall, and Mason and Logan Swope.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Richard L. Ammons in 1988; father Serge S. Bonecutter and mother Nellie J. Bonecutter; brothers S. Arlen Bonecutter and William L. Bonecutter; and her grandson Jeremy L. Ammons.
