The Mt. Gilead Lady Indians came to The Furnace on Logan Road to play a Tuesday night matchup with the Mansfield Christian Lady Flames. The Flames picked up their second win of the season with a 46-33 victory.
The Flames win came after a big night on the boards. MCS picked up 45 rebounds on the night. The Flames also turned in one of their lowest turnover totals of the season.
“Rebounding was our number one focus headed into the game. I was very pleased and we kept our turnovers down,” said Head Coach J.R. Wilson. The rebounding effort was led by Addie Daugherty. The sophomore, who sat out the entire second frame in foul trouble, still managed to put up 8 points and pulled down 19 rebounds.
Wilson, who is finishing up his first year with the team, was please with many levels of his squad’s play. “They came out fighting and being very determined. They got after every loose ball and the defense really stepped it up,” he noted.
Senior Mariah Stearns led the Lady Flames with 15 points. Sophomore Katie Ritz followed with 9 points. Junior Char Adkins added 8 points.
Selina Mulkey led the Mt. Gilead with 11 points.
The JV matchup also went to MCS, 23-18.
