BELLVILLE: Clyde Herbert Bowman, of Bellville, passed on to be with the Lord Jesus on June 26, 2025.

He was born on July 16, 1929, to Don Hugh and Grace Lucille (Bemiller) Bowman, in Newville, Ohio. He graduated from Butler High School in 1947. While in school he met Marian Louise Leedy, and they married on November 19, 1949, at North Liberty Methodist Church. They enjoyed 75 years of life together, as he exhibited a selfless, steady love so that even in his last months with failing health, his chief concern was caring for his wife.

From 1946 to 1980, Clyde worked in the family construction business, D.H. Bowman & Sons, managing the asphalt paving division for the latter two decades. When a friend invited him to help with a roadbuilding project in Haiti, he and Marian experienced a call to Christian missions. They served in Haiti with OMS International from 1981 to 1991. He was a lifelong “Christian Under Construction,” seeking to live as a Christ-like example to his family and friends. He was a faithful member and leader of Trinity UMC in Butler, Bellville UMC, and most recently, Three Crosses UMC in Butler. After retirement he and Marian spent several winters in central Florida where they particularly enjoyed the spring training season of the Cleveland Indians (now Guardians).

Clyde is survived by his wife Marian and four children: Mark Bowman of Chicago, Illinois; Michael (Julie) Bowman of Lexington; David Hofferber of Bellville; and Joyce (Jim) Espich of Ashland – as well as eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Richard, Merle and Bernard; and sister Marjorie.

There will be a celebration of his amazing, full life at Three Crosses Church in Butler in a few weeks. The Bellville Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the Bowman family.
