Daniel V. Baker, CLU, 86, of Mansfield passed away June 8, 2025 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital surrounded by family.
Dan was born June 28, 1938 in Shelby to Glenn and Mary Jane Minges Baker. He was a 1956 graduate of Shelby High School and a long-time member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church where he volunteered at for many different events. Dan was a veteran for the United States Navy serving time on the USS Alexander Murray. He was a very proud representative for Western & Southern Insurance serving in a variety of areas from a sales rep to management. Dan retired from there in 2017 after 55 years of service. He was a member of the 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus #687, along with many other social and service clubs. Dan loved following high school sports, especially Shelby athletes, attending many ice cream socials and tractor pulls. He loved his family and was a very proud to support his grandchildren in any way that he could.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years Beth Ann Smith Baker; children Daniel Michael (Shelli), Christopher (Christine), Victoria (John) Reef, Richard Ervin (Michelle), Patrick (Lori), Mathew (Kelly); 17 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brother David Baker; sisters Peggy DeWitt, Mary Copess, Sara White, Bonnie Carter; sister-in-law Jean Smith; many other nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, especially Richard Sweet and Jim Murtha.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Lawrence, Terrence and John.
Visitation will take place at Herlihy Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West, on Wednesday, June 11 from 4-6pm with a vigil prayer service at 6:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00am Thursday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 60 S. Mulberry St. with visitation held from 9:30am – 10am. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Bethlehem Settlement in Shelby immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Visitation Sisters of Toledo, Knights of Columbus #687 or St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
