Harley Edward “Ed” Trease, affectionately known as “Crazy Ed,” “Tumbling Ed,” and “The Mayor” to those who loved him most, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the age of 74 — doing one of his favorite things in the world: cheering on one of his grandchildren at a sporting event.

Born on December 31, 1950, in Mansfield, Ohio, Ed always joked that the entire world was celebrating his birthday with him since it was New Year’s Eve. A proud member of the Lexington High School Class of 1969, he remained the “glue” of his class and its unofficial mayor, organizing memories, keeping everyone informed, and keeping spirits high long after graduation.

Ed was a larger-than-life personality, known for his quick wit, infectious laughter, and his unforgettable signature line, “Wiiillllbuur!” (yes — like the horse from Mister Ed). He never met a stranger and had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel like family. His goofiness was legendary, his joy contagious, and his ability to make people smile — unparalleled.

He spent much of his working life in retail management, including years at Welles Department Store, Kings Department Store, Odd Lots, and Lock It Up Storage where countless customers and coworkers became lifelong friends.

But above all, Ed treasured his family. He was a devoted husband (about to celebrate his 55th wedding anniversary on June 6th), proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and always the loudest voice in the stands at a grandkid’s sporting events. He loved traveling, long road trips, and walking the beaches of Hilton Head (where he was known to outpace nearly everyone with his power-walking speed!). And no gathering was complete without the chant of “Tumbling Ed! Tumbling Ed!” — a tradition in which he would burst into a somersault humoring all around him. Though retired from tumbling in recent years, the memories live on.

Ed had a deep interest in the afterlife, ghosts, and signs from beyond. He loved cemeteries and ghost tours and would often share stories of loved ones sending signs. There is no doubt he is now having the time of his (after)life, exploring the great beyond and planning his next prank from the other side.

Ed was preceded in death by his beloved parents, June and Harley Al Trease, his siblings Vicky, Rick, and Ken Trease, and his granddaughter Serenity.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Marilyn Trease, and his children Harley Christopher (Brittany) Trease and Melissa Drozda. He leaves behind a legacy of joy in his grandchildren: Harley Tyler (Jennifer) Trease, Cameron Trease, Parker Trease, Addy Trease, Ashton Drozda, Isaac Drozda, and Amari Johnson, and great-grandchildren Madeline Trease and Barrett Harley Trease along with countless extended family, friends, and fans.

Calling hours will be held at the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, on Friday, June 13, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial Services celebrating the life of Ed Trease will take place at the same location on Saturday, June 14 at 11:00 a.m., with a final opportunity to visit with the family from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers or memorial contributions, the family asks that you honor Ed by doing what he did best: smile big, wave at everyone you pass (yes, even strangers), share a laugh with someone who needs it, and never miss a chance to brighten someone’s day. Ed believed in the power of kindness, connection, and making people feel seen. Let’s keep that spirit going – the world needs more Crazy Ed energy.

Ed’s was a life well-lived and loudly laughed. In his honor, we invite everyone to bring stories, wear smiles, and maybe — just maybe — practice their somersaults.
