SHELBY — Ellie Dawson belted a solo home run in the fifth and doubled and scored in the sixth as Ontario rallied for a 9-5 Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference win Wednesday at Shelby.

The Warriors (15-6, 10-3) trailed 5-4 after three innings, but took the lead for good with a four-run fifth. Dawson led off the frame with a homer to left to tie it at 5-5. Maddie Mullins and Piper Studer had run-scoring singles in the frame.

Morgan Pearson and Kennedy Weiler also homered for the Warriors. Pearson and Eden Howard each had three hits. 

Natalie Kennard led the Whippets (14-9, 9-4) with three hits, including a double. Braylee Sturts singled and knocked in a run.

Pearson picked up the win in relief of Howard. She worked four scoreless innings, striking out four and surrendering three hits.

Alyssa Booker took the loss for Shelby. She went the distance, allowing 12 hits while walking just one. Only five of the nine runs she allowed were earned.

The teams will complete the home-and-home series Thursday at Ontario.
