ONTARIO — Lexington-Springmill Road is ready for another restaurant, at least according to building permits from Richland County.

Ontario zoning inspector Benji Hall offered multiple updates to those attending Wednesday’s Planning Commission meeting, including news that Wingstop will build a new restaurant near Five Guys and Panda Express at 994 Lexington-Springmill Road.

The restaurant’s closest location to Ontario is in Ashland.

Hall also shared Raising Cane’s is on track for a July opening. The national chain that specializes in chicken will be located at 720 N. Lexington Springmill Road.

In addition, Starbucks has pushed back its August Drive construction timeline for 4 to 6 weeks. Hall said the Starbucks team told him the building exterior should be complete by the beginning of June.

However, crews do not have an end date in mind for interior construction, nor an opening date.

Mayor Kris Knapp said the city has not heard any updates on the GetGo gas station proposed for the former Cheddar’s building in November 2022.

“GetGo had purchased that lease for Cheddar’s and they are owned by Giant Eagle, which canceled all the GetGo builds,” Knapp said. “When they sold to Circle K, we didn’t hear anything from them on whether they even know they own the property.

“Once we hear, I will be happy to update council. We still pay close attention to that property to make sure it stays up to our city’s standards.”
